PCL Direct Group dedication to achieving its goal of environmental excellence
As a prominent industry leader, PCL Direct is continuously investing in research and development to advance the principles of the Circular Economy and the company’s innovative ‘green solutions’ are paving the way for future growth in this area. PCL Group is now playing a leading role in shaping the future while also recognising the importance of investing in the activities of local community environmental initiatives.

As a remanufacturer, in the print IT industry, PCL Direct Group is driven by its dedicated focus to achieving its stringent environmental objectives:

  • Producing fully accredited OEM-compatible consumables known for their reliability, reputation as reputable aftermarket products, and the highest quality.
  • Offering a range of fully recycled multifunctional printers (MFPs) and consumables, providing a new lease of life for used and discontinued models and consumables.
  • Supplying a range of high-quality MFPs and consumables that allow the channel to provide ecologically sound and cost-effective alternatives to more expensive OEM products.
  • Reducing waste throughout the business, setting an example by operating by the core circular economy principles of reuse, recycle, and remanufacture.
  • Actively encouraging and supporting the channel in meeting their own sustainability goals.
  • Sustaining the confidence of the channel by promoting PCL Direct Group's excellent industry reputation and campaign against unethical "greenwashing" practices.
  • Engaging with the local community to support environmentally friendly initiatives.

Every toner cartridge remanufactured by PCL Direct Group means one less cartridge ends up in landfills.
In the past year alone, the group has remanufactured over 68,000 toner cartridges, resulting in significant waste reduction. These cartridges have been remanufactured in Nuneaton using previously used OEM toner cartridges and through R&D, only uses the best chemically produced toners to match the quality of OEM toner while reducing costs by up to 30% compared to manufacturing OEM toner.

The Eco Direct brand
Eco Direct, is the flagship brand within the PCL Direct Group, and specialises in restoring and upcycling A4 and A3 colour MFPs, from OEMs like Konica Minolta and Ricoh. Every part of a used or discontinued OEM machine received by PCL Direct is either reused, recycled or sold, leaving no waste. After rigorous testing, the products are branded as Eco Direct and supplied to the channel with a six-month warranty, as an alternative range for customers who demand ecologically sound and cost-effective solutions.

Accredited Member of ETIRA
In a significant development, this year, PCL Direct Group achieved full accreditation as a member of the European Toner and Inkjet Remanufacturing Association (ETIRA), a non-profit organisation representing European inkjet and toner cartridge remanufacturers, related service providers, and compatible manufacturers. ETIRA focuses on issues such as product safety, quality, and standardisation, with a particular emphasis on combating "greenwashing" - "a false, misleading or untrue action, or set of claims, made by an organisation about the positive impact that the company, product or service has on the environment”.

ETIRA is working hard to eradicate this unethical practice by investigating complaints and only take on members whose remanufacturing and environmental credentials are 100% irrefutable. PCL Direct Group underwent a rigorous qualification and licensing process, enabling their remanufactured products and Eco Direct models to bear the official holographic ETIRA Certification Label.PCL Direct's products feature member-only ETIRA labels

Waste Collection Service for the Channel
As part of their commitment to sustainability, Eco Direct operates a channel waste collection service in partnership with a professional waste partner. This initiative gathers used machines and OEM consumables for use in the remanufacturing process. PCL Direct receives a Waste Transfer Certificate, to guarantee the material has been handled correctly, within WEEE regulations.

Eco Direct has now received 2,247 bags of waste material, of which 53% has been actively used for resale and the 35% of unusable material was sent to a 3rd party recycler. 12% of toner cartridges collected, were cartridges that PCL Direct don’t use, so these were sold on to brokers. None of the material collected was sent to landfill. Additionally, the PCL Direct Group has transitioned to biodegradable alternatives for packaging, eliminating plastic content.

Local Initiaitives
At the local level, Eco Direct sponsors the "Little Litter Warriors" scheme, initiated in 2020 by local resident Karen Blanchard. This programme educates children in Worcestershire about the importance of litter prevention and its impact on the planet. Eco Direct supports the initiative by sponsoring the high-visibility jackets for children involved in litter-picking activities, contributing to both environmental clean-up efforts and the safety of the children. Karen has now delivered her workshops to nearly 20,000 children.
